Papigo is one of the most beautiful traditional villages of Zagori. Papigo is located in Epirus, in Ioannina prefecture. Papigo is 62 Km away from Ioannina city and is built in an altitude of 980 metres. Papigo is known from the 14th century and is constituted by two settlements, Megalo Papigo and Mikro Papigo. In 16th century the population was increased after the union of all the settlements in the area. Papigo is known as well for its benefactors that constructed and gave to the state buildings, mansions, churches, schools, e.t.c.
Papigo is located near impressive Astraka mountain and offers beautiful view to the unique ravine of Vikos. The square, the churches, the schools, the houses and the stone taps are built according to the traditional architecture of Epirus. The area has a traditional total view. The village is consider to be (many years ago) a traditional settlement.
